Leomat is a privately-owned, multidisciplinary civil engineering and construction company headquartered in KwaZulu-Natal, with operations across Southern Africa.

Founded in 1979, Leomat has evolved into a dynamic and reputable organisation, delivering a broad range of professional construction services. Our growth has been driven by a strong foundation of technical expertise, consistent performance, and long-standing client relationships built through the successful delivery of complex projects.

Our core services include civil engineering construction, bulk earthworks, roads and pipelines, concrete structural works, industrial and process plant infrastructure, water and mining infrastructure, as well as the design and construction of turnkey solutions.

Divisions

In 1979 Leomat Construction was registered and began subcontracting to Natal Earthworks on the KwaZulu Legislative Assembly contract at Ulundi. Leomat Construction’s first contract was for the KwaZulu Roads Department on the Mbilane River Bridge, which had already been commenced but was behind schedule and needed to be completed in three months, a task which most considered impossible, but which Leo was willing to tackle and indeed succeeded in completing.

Leomat Construction Pty (Ltd) is a civil engineering company which is passionate about providing the high level of professional construction and SHEQ service expected by our clients. Our team of qualified and experienced civil engineers – of which 8 are registered with SACPCMP as Professional Construction Managers – and administrative staff are always on hand to ensure that our commitments to our clients are met safely, on time and on budget. Our extensive portfolio of work and client list, is testament to our commitment to quality with over 1200 successfully completed contracts throughout KwaZulu-Natal and Swaziland.

Leomat Construction is registered (104992) with the Construction Industry Development Board, and computes as a CIDB 9CE – able to do government work of unlimited value. This rating is the highest designation civil engineering rating achievable for a construction company.

In 1980 a second company – Leomat Plant Hire was registered and Leomat bought its first machine, a JCB 3C TLB. To date Leomat Plant Hire operates a growing fleet of over 250 units of various heavy construction equipment.

Leomat Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd operates an extensive fleet of over 250 units of heavy construction / earthmoving equipment to meet our clients varied needs. Leomat hires throughout KZN, as well as to mining houses nationally throughout South Africa. In order to supply the best to our clients, our fleet is maintained to manufacturers specifications in our in-house specially equipped workshop facility. Our fleet is regularly upgraded and selected plant is offered for sale.

Leomat Plant Hire is registered (108342) with the Construction Industry Development Board, and computes as a CIDB8CE. The Leomat Group computes as a CIDB9CE with Leomat Plant Hire and Leomat Construction. This rating is the highest rating designation a construction company can achieve.

Leomat has been engaged in the timber industry for over 30 years. During that time the directors; management and staff have gained a wealth of experience in this field.

The Leomat Group has its base at Richards Bay from where work is undertaken throughout KZN. In its 41 years, the Leomat Group has successfully completed a vast number of contracts and is today regarded as one of the major companies in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

BBBEE and Transformation

Leomat is a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor under the Construction Sector Codes, with 26% black ownership through youth shareholding by qualified, up-and-coming professional working partners.
