Leomat flies blue flag for Alkanstrand

Alkantstrand’s efforts to get full blue-flag accreditation have been boosted with the addition of a Skatepark to the recreational facilities on the beach-front. Only four KZN beaches have Blue Flag status, all of which are on the South Coast. This is an exciting project for the City of Umhlatuze, and Leomat is pleased to be part of this milestone.

The construction of the skate park is a first for Leomat, and they are proud to add this unique piece of engineering to their extensive projects portfolio. Site Manager Ettiene van Haght explains some of the concrete challenges faced by the team, "Getting the concrete curves required for the steep ramps was a challenge, as our workers are used-to flat surfaces, but we are pleased with the outcome".

Top SA skater, and Brand Manager for DC Shoes, Andrew Morck and a team of skaters made the trip from Durban to Leomat’s site to test out the anticipated addition to the Skating circuit. Andrew is very positive about the project, "It’s coming along great, and going very smooth.  The vibe is that everyone is very excited about it".

The project commenced on 21 June 2008, and is due to be completed at the end of February 2009. Ettiene summed up the project, "It’s been fun building this skatepark ... it’s something different!"
